The accident occurred on the A-52, near the Palacios de Sanabria area, in the early morning of July 3, 2025. Jota, 28, was reportedly travelling with his brother André, 26, also a professional footballer, when their car lost control, went off the road and burst into flames. Local newspaper Enfoque reported that both brothers died.
